The Northern Blues Development side recorded a clutch 10-point win to keep their season alive against the Casey Demons.
The Blues led all day in a tight tussle that never saw the margin go beyond three goals, recording a 7. 7. (49) to 5. 9. (39) win at Casey Fields yesterday.
Setting the tone early, the Blues moved the ball cleanly on transition in the first term in blustery conditions to great effect.
A late goal from close-range to James Corboy set the tone for the rest of the game, and established a two-goal buffer at quarter time that would ultimately prove pivotal to the outcome of the game.
The highlight of the day came early in the second term, as Matthew Walson gave the Blues the best possible start.
His mark, baulk and finish from beyond the 50-metre arc gave the Blues a boost, and broke the game open by taking the margin out to game-high three goals.
Both sides went blow-for-blow in a manner similar to the last time the sides met, with neither the Blues or Demons able to wrestle control on the contest for large portions.
Typically windy conditions made it difficult to convert in front of goal: Corboy’s third goal was the only goal by either side in a tense third quarter as Casey peppered the goals late.
With the Blues leading by 10 points heading into the final quarter, an early Demons goal made for a grandstand finish.
Pleasingly for Ian Aitken’s side, the Blues held their nerve late in the match as Casey pushed for the win.

Corboy bobbed up yet again to be the thorn for Casey, as he iced the game on the siren with his fourth for the day to give the Blues an all-important four points.
Tim Jones amassed a game-high 28 disposals in the heart of midfield, along with 10 tackles, six clearances and five inside 50s.
Glenn Strachan provided his customary dash along half back with 23 disposals of his own, while youngster Deven Costigan continued his impressive recent form.
