A trio of Northern Blues youngsters will head to Fortburn Stadium (North Port Oval) this Saturday as part of the annual Young Guns game.
Mason Blakey, Sam Fowler and Marcus Stavrou will represent the Blues in an exhibition game between some of the best young talent in the VFL and TAC Cup.
All in their first years at the club, each of the three had their taste of VFL football while displaying some great form at Development level.
After overcoming a hand injury early in the year, Blakey earned his spot in the senior team and played six of the final seven games, where he earned praise for his leadership and ability to defend under pressure.
Formerly of the Dandenong Stingrays, Fowler produced an endless highlight reel in the Development League, leading the side’s goal-kicking come the end of the season.

Stavrou started the year all guns blazing, playing the opening three games down back and instantly looking like he belonged at senior level. He went onto play nine VFL games, and a further five at Development level.
They’ll be joined by the Northern Knights’ Mark Baker, Matthew Harman, Joel Naylor and Ben Wiggins on the same team: Harman and Wiggins featured for the Blues at various stages in 2017.
The game will take place this Saturday at 11:30am, and will act as a curtain raiser to the VFL Preliminary Final between Box Hill and Richmond.
