Cameron O’Shea won the 2017 Laurie Hill Trophy.

Cameron O’Shea entered the Northern Blues history books with a record-breaking win in the 2017 Laurie Hill Trophy.

O’Shea was a convincing winner in the best-and-fairest award, polling 146 votes — seven more than the record set by Kane Lambert in 2013.

In his first year at the Northern Blues, the Laurie Hill Trophy capped off an award-ladened year for O’Shea.

O’Shea donned the Victorian jumper in May, was named at centre-half-back in the VFL Team of the Year and was equal-highest vote getter for the club in the Liston Trophy.

He led the competition for marks, while also leading the club for disposals, effective kicks, handball receives and rebound 50s.

O’Shea completed a full season, playing the entire complement of 18 matches.

Incredibly, he polled in every match after Round 1, where he only played a half after suffering a concussion.

He polled perfect 15-vote matches on four occasions, including three in a row against Box Hill, Port Melbourne and Essendon from Rounds 11 to 13.

Heading into the final game on 137 votes, O’Shea’s nine-vote game against the Hawks saw him surpass Lambert’s four-year record.
