Northern Blues best-and-fairest winner Cameron O’Shea has been drafted to the Carlton Football Club.
O’Shea’s brilliant year at VFL level was capped off when he made his way to the Blues with the only pick in today’s AFL Pre-Season Draft.
After playing 81 games for Port Adelaide, O’Shea’s standout season saw him take home just about every honour available to him in a year where he played all 18 senior games.
O’Shea represented Victoria in the state game, was named in the VFL Team of the Year, polled the equal-most votes of any Northern Blue in the Liston Trophy and won the Laurie Hill Trophy by polling a record amount of votes.
A defender who can play on any opponent and start attacks from the back half, O’Shea led the VFL for marks and was second in the competition for effective kicks and rebound 50s.
He becomes the first Northern player to be directly drafted from the club into the AFL since Jacob Ballard in 2013, and the first in 11 years to head to Carlton.
O’Shea joins Paddy Dow, Lochie O’Brien, Tom De Koning, Angus Schumacher, Jarrod Garlett, Matt Shaw and Cillian McDaid (international rookie) as the Blues’ newest arrivals.
Everyone at the Northern Blues Football Club would like to extend their congratulations to Cam, and wish him the very best of luck with Carlton!
