Andy Maher is on board and northbound in 2018.
The respected journalist and devoted Bluebagger will be the Northern Blues’ number one ticket holder.
A self-confessed footy nut and Carlton supporter since day dot, Maher’s experience and standing in the football and media landscape needs no introduction.
The host of SEN Afternoons and panel member of Channel 7’s The Front Bar spoke at Ikon Park this morning, saying it was “awesome to be involved”.
“I remember the first time I was ever allowed to go anywhere alone was Ikon Park with my two mates Paul Barbazza and Stephen Pertile, who I’m now part of The Carlton Show with,” Maher said.
“I think it’s really an important time for the football club… Being able to watch that next wave of talent coming through at the Northern Blues is exciting.
“It’s really a good environment that Josh and his team are creating at the Blues, which is really important especially for all those young players who’ll be the future of the Carlton Football Club.”
Maher was optimistic of the team’s fortunes in 2018, and was looking forward to seeing the best of Northern in action in the VFL competition.
He spoke of his adoration for the competition, as well as Northern-listed stalwart Tom Wilson and the current captain’s predecessor, Brent Bransgrove.
“I think the VFL is getting bigger and more important in recent years, I think there’s been a revision to understanding the importance of state leagues in Australia,” Maher said.
“The VFL now is in a really exciting phase of its journey.”
