The Northern Blues will field eight club debutants in today’s game against Collingwood.

Named in the final Bertocchi 23 are six players who will make their VFL debuts, while another pairing will don the Northern Blue jumper for the first time.

Four of the six come from Carlton, with the drafted trio of Tom De Koning, Lochie O’Brien and Angus Schumacher joined by ruckman Matthew Lobbe.

They’ll be joined by the VFL-listed debutants of Sam Fisher and youngster Jordan Johnston, both of whom were named on the final bench for today’s match.

Fisher was recruited from the Sydney Swans after spending a year on their rookie list, while Johnston is rewarded for an exciting pre-season since arriving from the GWV Rebels.

Matthew Shaw and Jason Williams will also play their first VFL games for the club. Shaw spent a year with the Gold Coast’s inaugural VFL team in 2010, while Williams previously played for Port Melbourne.

Ethan Penrith, who will play as 23rd man, played a single game for the Blues last season during his year at the Northern Knights.
