Youngsters Ethan Penrith and Max Dreher have re-signed for the 2019 VFL season.
The Northern Blues have made their first two re-signings for the 2019 season, with Max Dreher and Ethan Penrith committing for next season.
Two players who demonstrated Northern’s commitment to the youth driving the club forward, Dreher and Penrith will return for their second seasons.
The pair arrived from TAC Cup affiliate the Northern Knights at the end of 2017, ready to make their mark at VFL level.
Penrith made an immediate impact, playing 16 games and improving by the week in his first VFL season. His speed and defensive pressure was a highlight, averaging over 15 disposals and four tackles per game.

Dreher’s personal year was a frustrating one, curtailed by a foot injury on the eve of the season. He returned late in the season and was immediately put into the senior side, featuring in the last two games of the home-and-away campaign.
The duo said the club’s show of faith and the development program were two key factors in re-committing to the Blues.
“I feel like the Northern Blues gives me the best chance to develop my footy. I believe the Club is going in the right direction and the coaching we got was second to none,” Penrith said.
“The club gave me the opportunity to showcase my skills by playing me in different positions. The upside for the coming years is massive in a young playing group.”
For the majority of 2018, a VFL debut seemed highly unlikely for Max Dreher.

“As a club, we’ve come a long way in comparison to the beginning of the year, we have a lot of potential moving forward,” Dreher said.
“I’m really thankful of the support everyone showed me in managing my injury and getting me back out on the field.”
Stay tuned as the Northern Blues announce their list changes for the coming year.
