Double header action will return to Ikon Park next Thursday with confirmation of the Northern Blues’ practice match schedule.

Northern will host Port Melbourne on Thursday 28 February from 4pm at Ikon Park, taking place prior to Carlton’s JLT clash with Essendon later that evening.

It will the first chance for AFL and VFL-listed players to combine, with teams to be announced on the day of the game. Gates will open at 3:45pm.

Northern has made a number of moves in the off-season, with some new recruits bound to get their chance in the match against the Borough.

Next Thursday’s match will be the first of four practice matches for the Blues leading into the 2019 season — including two which have a direct tie-in with the AFL side.

Northern heads to Olympic Park Oval on Sunday 10 March (2pm) to take on Collingwood, a day prior to the AFL clash between Collingwood and Carlton in Morwell.

Then, the Blues will head to Punt Road for the fourth straight season when they take on Richmond from 4pm. It will once again act as a ‘curtain raiser’ to the AFL season opener across the road at the MCG later that night.
