VFL practice match report: Blues v Lions


The Northern Blues gained valuable match experience against different opposition on Sunday.

THE Blues hosted the Brisbane Lions’ NEAFL side on Sunday at Ikon Park, going down by 13 points at Ikon Park.

It was a return to action for a few young Blues, with Sam Petrevski-Seton and Lochie O’Brien featuring in their first hitouts for the year.

Stationed across half back, Petrevski-Seton was typically classy on his return, collecting 16 disposals and a goal. He played three quarters of the game.

Similarly, O’Brien put together an accomplished showing on the wing, accumulating 17 disposals and provided a valuable outlet between the arcs.

In a game where a number of AFL-listed players featured throughout, Tom Williamson was one of the shining lights.

The youngster led all comers with 21 disposals and seven marks in an impressive individual performance.

Matthew Owies hit the scoreboard early, while train-on player Callum Moore was Northern’s sole multiple goalkicker with two goals.

It was a game which mirrored that of the AFL counterparts, with the Blues kicking out to an early lead on the back of promising ball movement. However, the second half belonged to the Lions, who ultimately emerged with a 10.7. (67) to 8.6 (54) win.
