Carlton in the Community

The Carlton Football Club is committed to working to improve the lives of many people in all walks of life. Primarily through the high public profile of the players and coaching staff, Carlton uses this unique opportunity to work with charities, schools, civic and community groups to make a positive contribution to society. Carlton takes great pride in playing an active role and making a year-round commitment to the community. Everyone at Carlton understands the importance of this responsibility.

The Carlton Football Club Community Fund was established in 2009 to assist the local community and is a key part of Carlton’s Community program. In 2012 the Carlton Community Program will work with the Northern Blues to play an important role in the community in the northern region of Melbourne.

The name change from Northern Bullants to Northern Blues, (Carlton’s VFL affiliate team), strengthens the alignment between the two clubs in a true partnership. The new name also provides consistency for junior footballers and clubs within the northern suburbs of Melbourne through; the Northern Football League (the name of the junior league in the region), the Northern Knights (the TAC Under 18 team representing the region) and now the Northern Blues in the VFL.

Northern Blues Schools Program

As part of the partnership between Carlton and the Northern Blues, the Carton Football Club has unveiled the Northern Blues Schools program 2012. The Schools program will be conducted in primary schools during terms 1 – 3 of 2012.

This exciting community focused program is a school-based health & physical education initiative that aims to promote the game of Australian Football among primary level students. The program will run over six weeks at the respective school and encompass key themes such as leadership, respect, team work, harmony and exercise and nutrition.

Key objectives of the program are to:

• Encourage community strengthening and inclusion within the wider Australian community.
• Motivate children to be involved in football or group activities, and utilise this as a method to divert high risk behavior, and develop social skills.
• Educate and inform students on issues such as fitness, health, diet, teamwork, harmony and leadership.
• Create strong, and mutually beneficial relationships within the community.
