Northern Blues Partner with Leukaemia Foundation

The Northern Blues have announced the Leukaemia Foundation as their official charity partner.

The Leukaemia Foundation is the only national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the care and cure of patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders.

“We are delighted that the Northern Blues have chosen the Leukaemia Foundation as their charity of choice. We receive no ongoing government funding and rely on the generosity of organisations like the Northern Blues to help us continue to provide services to patients and their families,” said Leukaemia Foundation General Manager Stephanie Hechenberger.

“The Northern Blues are very proud to announce The Leukaemia Foundation as our charity partner,” said Garry O’Sullivan, General Manager of the Northern Blues.

“With the Club itself having been touched by personal experiences and the Leukaemia Foundation recently moving their offices close to us in Preston, the partnership makes perfect sense.

“We look forward to doing what we can to improve the lives of those suffering with leukaemia and related blood disorders.”

To kick off the new relationship, the Northern Blues will be participating in the World’s Greatest Shave, which takes place from March 14th to 17th.

“More than 12,000 people are expected to be diagnosed with a blood cancer or related blood disorder in Australia this year – equivalent to 31 people every day. Money is needed to fund research to find better treatments and cures and fund the Leukaemia Foundation’s free services to support patients and their families from diagnosis through treatment and beyond,” said Hechenberger.

“That’s why the World’s Greatest Shave is so important. Money raised funds free services to support the person and their family, including information, emotional care, transport to and from treatment, and accommodation for regional Australians who need to move closer to hospital."

The Leukaemia Foundation also funds vital blood cancer research into better treatments and cures.

“We are aiming to raise $3.5 million in Victoria and we need people of all ages and walks of life to take part at home, work or school."

News of which players will be participating in the World's Greatest Shave will be announced shortly along with where and when the event will take place.
